The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) represents a vast and diverse intellectual tradition encompassing
philosophy, science, mathematics, medicine, and linguistics. Among its significant contributions, Vedic
Mathematics stands out as an ancient yet highly efficient mathematical system derived from Vedic
texts. This paper explores the foundations of Vedic Mathematics, primarily attributed to the work of
Swami Bharati Krishna Tirtha, who reconstructed its 16 Sutras (formulas) and 13 sub-Sutras. These
methods offer simplified and faster approaches to arithmetic operations, algebra, geometry, and
calculus, making them relevant for contemporary education and computational applications. The paper
also highlights the interdisciplinary connections between IKS and modern scientific thought,
emphasizing the potential of Vedic Mathematics in improving problem-solving skills, cognitive
development, and mathematical pedagogy. By integrating these ancient techniques with modern
learning frameworks, Vedic Mathematics can contribute significantly to global mathematical education
and research.
