Abstract

Background and Aim: Aging along with hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular (CV)
morbidity and mortality. It is noticed that systolic hypertension in elderly is often associated with
increased CV risks and is resistant to pharmacological treatment. Hence, we aimed to assess the
grade-I hypertensive patients.
Methods: A randomized control study keeping this point in view, twenty four (N=64) hypertensive
patients aged 35 to 50 years, were selected from kanpur ragion for experimentation purpose and the
variables such systolic and diastolic blood pressure and lipid profile including TG, TC,HDLC, LDLC,
were examined during study. They were randomly divided into two groups such as the control and
experimental group. The blood samples collected before and after yogic practices. Yoga was imparted
inthe morning and in the evening hours with one hour per day for a period of 3 months.
Results: We found a significant decrease in systolic BP were significantly low in yoga group
(P=<0.01) compared to the control group. The results of test revealed that yoga was effective in
controlling the variables of grade-I hypertensive patients.
Conclusion:The present studies reveals that hypertension can be effectively controlled in elderly
patients through practicing yoga.
